During each paving season, we receive many calls from homeowners seeking help after being victimized by door to door asphalt peddlers. They complain of shoddy workmanship, price gouging and insufficient asphalt depth. All too often, they have already paid for the work and the person who did the work either could not be found, or if located; refused to correct any deficiencies. We can do little but to suggest they report the incident to the Better Business Bureau and the Attorney General's Office.

All too often these sleazy operators have no headquarters and are all but impossible to track down. Perhaps this is why they are willing to offer lengthy but obviously worthless warranties on their work. Therefore, the average homeowner has no other recourse but to absorb the loss and be embarrassed at their own stupidity.

Should you as a homeowner require asphalt paving work, carefully check the reputation and references of the paving contractor you contact for an estimate.
